Troubleshooting and Consulting Projects

Troubleshooting and Coaching

Your organisation’s human resources and line managers deal with some of the most difficult, complex and sensitive issues in managing the business – the “people” factor.

Confidentiality considerations often prevent any discussion with colleagues, but sometimes managers need to talk through the thorny issues with someone else who has experience in workplace relations. Our consultants provide astute and practical troubleshooting and coaching to organisations’ leaders and managers, particularly at times of change or conflict.

Drawing on years of experience in workplace management, conflict-resolution, legal practice and workplace consulting, our consultants are skilled in handling the most intractable workplace relations issues.

Worklogic provides one-on-one discussion and mentoring for managers, either in person or by telephone. We work through particular problems with you – from troubleshooting an individual issue to navigating organisational politics, from behind the scenes coaching of a one-off meeting to developing change management skills.

Our consultants can come to your workplace or meet off-site, for a confidential problem-solving discussion. Whether you are managing an individual employee or a systemic problem, Worklogic can assist with troubleshooting, coaching, strategic advice and referrals to appropriate resources.

Here are some examples of Worklogic’s recent troubleshooting and coaching:

The client asked “Where do we start?” – An individual employee with possible psychiatric problems posed an OH&S risk. A poor performer, the employee had accused colleagues of harassment and lodged a WorkCover claim. Working alongside the organisation’s lawyers, we developed a plan for managing the employee’s complaints, improving his behaviour at work, and protecting the wellbeing of the team.

Senior managers struggled to control a rogue employee who was potentially involved in fraudulent warranty claims, rorting the commissions system, and encouraging other staff to disobey company policy. Worklogic coached the managers “behind the scenes”, created a script for the performance management discussion, and negotiated with the union in relation to disciplinary action.

After a formal workplace investigation involving assault and sexual harassment, Worklogic worked with the HR managers to manage the employees’ wellbeing, and formulated options for the organisation in dealing with the respondent.

Workplace Consulting Projects

Drawing on many years of experience in workplace relations and problem-solving, we undertake research and consulting projects where clients have specific questions or want to address workplace-wide concerns. The combination of legal training, research skills, creative thinking and practical focus gives Worklogic’s consultants a unique approach to workplace consulting projects. They are ideal researchers, problem-solvers, and “on the ground” aides to senior executives and in-house counsel.

We provide workplace research, fact-finding, focus groups and employee surveys, advice and other assistance to those responsible for managing constructive workplace relationships.

Worklogic has recently been entrusted with the following consulting projects:

  • Developing and running a culture change program – Focusing on flexible work practices and employee retention, Worklogic worked with a major international manufacturer to improve the cohesion and equity in the workplace, with flow-on benefits in productivity, team effectiveness and morale.
  • Focus group facilitation – A workgroup was developing a malicious and divisive culture. Left unchecked, the business expected the workgroup to “implode” with bullying accusations and resignations. In a series of training workshops developed around the company’s Code of Conduct, Worklogic worked with the employees to explore the reasons for disharmony and define new ground rules for working together.
  • Complaints-handling review – In response to a formal request from a government regulator, Worklogic was engaged to undertake a qualitative review of an organisation’s serious complaint files, and to formulate recommendations for process improvement.
  • Identifying Performance Standards: Working with a senior team tasked with improving business performance, our consultant project-managed the identification, formulisation and implementation of measurable performance standards for every staff member in the organisation.
  • Responding to a board request to audit HR processes across their organisation, Worklogic consultants comprehensively reviewed all HR processes and procedures. Significant gaps across a range of processes identified, including training. Worklogic’s practical and achievable recommendations provided the client with a “road map” to manage HR processes effectively and efficiently.
  • Worklogic was briefed to create a tailored one-on-one training and coaching program for a high level executive in an international company. There was a great deal of initial reluctance by the executive to engage. Once the coaching commenced, however, the executive acknowledged the significant benefit of increasing his skills levels to support good staff and managing difficult staff in an effective and constructive way.
